Common Words, Phrases, and ‘Why’?

A

  • This reflects my opinion on what the abbreviation of “Artificial Intelligence” SHOULD be - and so I use it.
It’s written intentionally with a capital “A” and lowercase “i”.

"AI” is often promoted as a tool to level the playing field, but the name itself easily looks like a lowercase “L”. From the start, this created confusion and intimidation around this new technology. Its name is hard to read!

I see this as an intentional barrier to entry, alienating those skeptical of this useful tool. “AI’s” abbreviation is conveniently blamed on grammar, but grammar rules are broken all of the time IRL. Why not here?

This is a waste of time and opportunity for humanity, labeling “Ai” as “AI” creates distance.

  • I write this all of the time. Usually, ATM means ‘at the moment’. This is probably really confusing since for many people (even myself a lot of the time) ATM = Automatic Teller Machine (the machine you get cash out of). So, let’s say I wrote “ATM I’m at the ATM” - it means “at the moment, I’m getting cash”. Good luck.
